James Ruchti earned his undergraduate degree from West Point in 1993. Commissioned into the U.S. Army as a military intelligence officer from 1993 to 1998, James served in Kuwait, Jordan, Germany, Arizona, and Georgia. At the rank of Captain, he decided to leave the military to pursue a law degree. In 2001, James graduated from the University of Idaho College of Law, where he won the Conrad B. Duberstein National Moot Court Competition.
Following graduation from law school, he served for one year as a law clerk to the Honorable B. Lynn Winmill, United States District Judge for the District of Idaho. He was elected to the Idaho legislature in 2006. Upon his reelection in 2008, he served as the Assistant Minority Leader in the Idaho House of Representatives.
James retired from the Legislature in 2010 and teamed up with friend and law school classmate, Joel Beck, to open Ruchti & Beck, PLLC. Their litigation firm only represents plaintiffs in personal injury, wrongful death, workers’ compensation and insurance claims.
James is a past President of the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association. James and his wife, Wendy, are the proud parents of two sons, but have embraced being empty-nesters. They are avid CrossFitters, so when they are not working, traveling to spend time with their kids or enjoying the outdoors, you can find them in the gym with friends.
