Most of the sitting District Judges filed for re-election last week.  The only few who did not either announced their intent to retire or were exempt under I.C. 1-702 which outlines their recent appointments and exemption from this election.

Two sitting judges received opponents:

Judge Cody Brower will face Aaron Thompson in the Sixth District.

Judge Steven Boyce will face Randy Neal in the Seventh District.

There will be a four-way primary election in the Fourth District to fill Judge Norton’s seat.  Vying are:

Jeffrey Street

David Morse

Greg Woodard

Michael Dean

There will also be a primary race for District 1, Shoshone A between:

Benjamin Allen

Lisa Cheseboro

Destry Randles is the only person to file for District 1, Kootenai A so she will win the seat.

You can find all of the filings on the Idaho Sec. of State website here:

Presidents’ Day is a tribute to the founders who imagined a country built on the rights of its citizens. They understood that justice would only endure if it was accessible, transparent, and protected by an independent legal system.  Imagine the challenge of trying to create a framework that would last for centuries. The Constitution they drafted was not perfect, but it was purposeful, establishing safeguards meant to be strengthened by each generation. Today is a chance to reflect on that legacy and the responsibility we share in carrying it forward.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we pause to reflect on Dr. King’s enduring message: that justice requires courage, community, and action. His work reminds us that progress is never automatic. It is built intentionally, step by step, by people willing to stand up for fairness, dignity, and human rights.
